Plain-language summary: Chapbook is a local-first writing/publishing tool. You own your work. Optional accounts have separate terms and costs. AI can be wrong and is not professional advice. Nothing below removes mandatory consumer rights.

Who we are and agreement

These Terms are between you and RQAI Ltd, United Kingdom (“RQAI”, “we”), for the Chapbook web, PWA and desktop applications. Contact support@rqai.co.uk. Selecting “Agree and continue” is electronic acceptance; the current version and timestamp are stored on your device. The Privacy Notice is information, not blanket consent.

Eligibility

You must be at least 16 to use Chapbook independently. A user under 18 must have parent/legal-guardian permission. A guardian accepting for a younger user is responsible for supervision, especially public publishing and connected AI.

Licence, price and renewal

Unless a checkout clearly says otherwise, a Chapbook purchase is a yearly, personal, non-transferable subscription covering the purchaser's own devices. Stripe shows the price, billing interval, taxes and renewal before purchase. The emailed signed key remains valid for the paid period. Do not share, resell or circumvent it. An automatic renewal issues a fresh key; a cancellation or failed payment stops future access after the paid period.

Trial keys last 7 days, require no card and are limited to one per person. Any promotional or free-access programme will state its dates and conditions. Third-party AI, GitHub, hosting, domain, Cloudflare or connectivity costs are not included.

Cancellation, digital supply and refunds

Cancel renewal from the Stripe receipt/customer link or by emailing support. Our voluntary Refund Policy gives a full refund when requested within 14 days of purchase or an unintended renewal. Where law gives a cooling-off or conformity remedy, that right also applies. If you expressly request immediate digital supply during a statutory cancellation period, the checkout may ask for the legally required acknowledgement; it will not silently waive a right.

Your content, accounts and publishing

You retain rights in drafts, posts, recordings, images and prompts. RQAI receives no ownership and only the limited technical permission needed for an action you request. You are responsible for rights, confidentiality, accuracy, backups and the lawfulness of publication. GitHub repositories, domains, AI accounts and R2 buckets are controlled by you; deleting Chapbook does not delete remote copies.

AI and third-party services

GitHub, Stripe, Cloudflare and your selected AI provider operate under their own terms, privacy rules, limits and prices. AI output is probabilistic and may be false, biased, incomplete, offensive, infringing or fabricated. It is assistance, not legal, medical, financial, employment or other professional advice. Verify claims, citations, code, permissions and provenance. Keep a human editor responsible for the final post and comply with synthetic-content disclosures described in the AI Transparency Notice.

Acceptable use

You must follow the Acceptable Use Policy. Do not use Chapbook for unlawful exploitation, non-consensual intimate material, deceptive impersonation, fraud, harassment, rights infringement, malicious access or prohibited/high-impact automated decisions. We may restrict RQAI-operated access where reasonably necessary for security, abuse prevention, law or protection of others.

Software and supplied assets

RQAI and its licensors own Chapbook's software, branding, interface and supplied assets, excluding your content and third-party/open-source components. We grant a personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app under these Terms. Open-source components retain their licences. You may not sell access, remove notices, bypass controls or conduct abusive automated extraction, except where law expressly permits.

Availability, changes and termination

We use reasonable care but cannot promise uninterrupted operation, every-device compatibility or permanent third-party APIs/models. Export and back up important drafts. We may change features. Material legal/privacy changes receive a new version and renewed acceptance where appropriate. You can stop and erase local data at any time. We may suspend RQAI-operated access for material breach, security risk or legal requirement, with notice where practical.

Consumer rights, warranties and liability

Chapbook will be provided with reasonable care and skill. Nothing excludes liability that law does not allow us to exclude, including death/personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, data-protection duties and statutory consumer rights. If digital content is faulty, consumers may have repair, replacement, price-reduction or refund remedies.

Subject to those rights, RQAI is not responsible for loss caused by your publication, failure to back up, credentials/configuration, third-party outages, AI inaccuracies or use outside the documented purpose where the loss was not reasonably foreseeable. Chapbook is not an emergency, health-diagnosis, legal-decision, credit, recruitment or safety-critical system. For business users, to the maximum permitted by law, indirect/consequential loss, lost profit/opportunity and lost data are excluded, and aggregate liability is limited to fees paid for Chapbook in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Law, complaints and contact

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Consumers retain mandatory local protections and access to courts available under the law where they live. Email support@rqai.co.uk first so we can try to resolve a complaint.
